Indiana Pacers Information

If you are a sports fan, you know that there is more to Indiana than just corn. Indiana happens to be the fertile breeding grounds for some of the most famous basketball players ever. A culmination of these players can be seen in the professional NBA basketball team, the Indiana Pacers.

Based in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Pacers call Conseco Fieldhouse home.
The Pacers have had some to the best basketball players to ever touch a basketball. One such player was Reggie Miller, who was drafted by the Pacers in 1987 and remained with the franchise until his retirement in 2005.

You would have never known it but Reginald Wayne Miller, born August 24, 1965, had leg deformities as a child and could not walk correctly. He was forced to wear leg braces, which eventually allowed his legs to build up strength enough to lose the leg braces and ultimately become an incredible professional basketball player. Reggie attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He was known for his precision in three-point field goal shooting while under great pressure.

Miller became a household name during the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks. During Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Miller scored 39 points, 25 of which came in the fourth quarter alone. His phenomenal precision helped the Pacers' to a 93-86 victory at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks home turf. Unfortunately, this was not the year for the Pacers, and they ended up losing to the New York Knicks. Miller’s career was full of these breath-gasping moments. He was king of pulling out the stops at crunch time. For example, in another semi-finals against the Knicks, Reggie scored eight points in the last 16.4 seconds. In 3.1 seconds, he buried a three-point shot, stole the inbounds pass, walked back behind the arc and buried another three-point shot. Two free throws later, Reggie led the team to victory, dismantling their losing streak against the Knicks. What came to be called a “Miller Moment”, Reggie fired the game-winning three-point shot over the Bulls in 1998’s Eastern Conference Finals. Finally, The Pacers won an Eastern Conference Championship in 2000, again largely due to Reggie’s last-second antics. In Game 6 against the New York Knicks, Reggie scored 34 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Miller Time started slowing down as the 2000s rolled on eventually retiring in 2005. Yet, he was still highly respected among NBA players and, as of the 2003-04 season, he held the all-time NBA record in career three-point field goals made (3-pt FGM). Over the course of his career, Miller scored 25,279 points, with an average of 18.2 points per game. He shot .471 from the field, .395 from 3-point range and .888 from the free throw line. Before Miller walked off the court for the last time, the Pistons’ coach Larry Brown, called a time-out and the players along with a stadium full of fans, gave Reggie a well deserved standing ovation for his outstanding NBA career.

Though Miller may be gone, there is still plenty of hot basketball action to be seen from the Indiana Pacers. Buy Indiana Pacers tickets today to see a part of the magic.
